He was a filmmaker, scriptwriter, translator and professor at the Pompeu Fabra University. He is primarily recognized for his films, especially documentaries. Before he passed away, he gave his personal archive to Santa Coloma de Farners, his hometown.

These archives contained more than 1000 video tapes, his library, which includes hundreds of books and cultural magazines, a collection of political magazines from the 70s and a witten documents (about 2500 items).

We were asked to used these archives and the empty exhibition space in Universitat Pompeu Fabra to do a memorial Joaquim Jorda Exhibition design proposal.

Beyond Film: A Retrospect

Jorda’s involvement of layers in his films are used to create debate through the overlapping of various topics and strategies. This hypothesis emphasizes the use of layering, and integrates them into the design of the space as well as the experience of the view in the exhibition. Five chapters were formed based on the layers used in Jorda’s films, where each chapter is devoted to one layer.
